International Journal of Biological and Biomedical Research
The International Journal of Biological and Biomedical Research (IJBBR) publishes peer-reviewed research on the biological basis of human health and disease, and on the laboratory, molecular and natural-product approaches used to study, diagnose and treat it. The journal gives priority to work that asks a clear biological or biomedical question and answers it with sound experimental, clinical-laboratory or systematic-review methods.
The areas below reflect the research the journal actually publishes and the expertise available on its Editorial Board and reviewer panel. Each area lists recent articles as examples.
1. Medical Microbiology, Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance
Pathogen identification and typing, virulence and resistance genes, antimicrobial-resistance surveillance, host–pathogen interaction and microbial contamination of health products.
Recent examples: Molecular detection and antimicrobial resistance profiling of Klebsiella oxytoca in urinary tract infections; Mechanisms of multidrug resistance in intestinal E. coli; Genetic determinants of Helicobacter pylori pathogenicity.
2. Immunology and Molecular Biomarkers
Cytokines, microRNAs and other molecular markers in infectious, autoimmune, inflammatory and neoplastic disease, including diagnostic and prognostic biomarker studies.
Recent examples: miRNA-326 expression and serum IL-17 in rheumatoid arthritis; Serum IL-10 and TGF-β in HPV infection and cervical cancer; Diagnostic potential of miRNA-122 in liver disease.
3. Clinical Biochemistry, Physiology and Metabolic Health
Clinical-laboratory and case–control studies of metabolic, endocrine, renal and cardiovascular parameters, and experimental physiology in validated animal models.
Recent examples: Vitamin D, blood sugar and lipids in type 2 diabetes; Serum magnesium and arterial hypertension; Hormonal imbalance and symptoms in PCOS.
4. Pharmacology, Natural Products and Phytochemistry
Bioactive compounds from plants and fungi, phytochemical profiling, antimicrobial and antifungal activity, and pharmacological or in-silico evaluation of therapeutic candidates.
Recent examples: GC-MS and in-silico evaluation of Capparis spinosa extract; Plant-derived antifungal agents against Candida species; Ganoderma resinaceum as a source of B vitamins.
5. Molecular and Cell Biology, Cancer Biology and Computational Biology
Gene expression and regulation, cell signalling, tumour biology, omics and bioinformatics approaches to disease mechanisms.
Recent examples: Exosomes in tumour-microenvironment remodelling and metastasis; Computational biology in proteomics.
6. Applied Microbial and Plant Biotechnology (secondary area)
Microbial and plant biotechnology studies with a defined biological mechanism, such as biofertilisers, biodegradation and genetic transformation.
Recent examples: Carrier-based Azotobacter vinelandii biofertilizer; Agrobacterium rhizogenes rol genes for plant improvement.
Original research articles, short communications, systematic and scoping reviews, critical narrative reviews, and case–control or case-series studies with laboratory data.

Every new submission is checked against these areas by the Editor-in-Chief or a Handling Editor before peer review. Manuscripts are sent only to reviewers whose expertise matches the area of the paper. The scope is reviewed each year by the Editorial Board against the articles published and the expertise available on the Board.
IJBBR follows the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All articles are freely available online immediately on publication under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
